William Lee Gurley, 75, of St. Albans went home to be with Jesus on July 22, 2026, at Thomas Hospital after a long illness. He was at peace and surrounded by his family.
Bill was a devoted Christian and member of Lower Falls Baptist Church in St. Albans. He was a devoted family man who loved his family wholeheartedly. Everyone who ever met Bill thought he was a great guy with a really great sense of humor. He made everyone laugh. He had a great love for God and his church family. He retired from WVDOH Bridge Department after 25 years of service, most of them as a Bridge Inspector.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Abraham and Ruth Gurley, brother Allen Gurley, son Tony Gurley, and his other brother Gary Hughes.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years Cathy Igo Gurley, daughter Lee Meredith King, daughter Hannah Lynn White, son Andrew William King, brothers Chuck Gurley and wife Denise, and Robert Gurley and wife Donna, sister Judy McKown, sisters-in-law Carol Igo Hughes, Cynthia Bowling, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026, at 1:00 pm at Cooke Funeral Home, Nitro with Pastor Raymond Jordan and Russell Williamson officiating. Burial will follow at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans, WV. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at the funeral home on Monday.
