Virgie Mae Meadows, 77, of Clendenin, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on August 8, 2026, at home surrounded by her family.
Virgie was a dedicated member of Cottontree Community Church. She taught Sunday school and led congregational singing. She never missed an opportunity to sing a song for the Lord. She was a dedicated housewife and loved caring for her children and grandchildren. Virgie was an avid quilter. She won many ribbons – some best of show, first place, fan favorite, just to name a few categories. Each blanket was hand-quilted with beautiful color combinations and took countless hours. She made sure each stitch was perfect. She donated one particular quilt to the West Virginia Culture Center, on display for many years. She was known in Clendenin and surrounding areas for her Christmas lights. She made several of her own displays, which included an entire nativity scene made out of wood.
She is preceded in death by her son, Billy Ray Meadows, Jr., parents Lonnie and Kathleen Smith, son-in-laws Kenneth Elmore, Jess (Chuck) Inclenrock, and Christopher Mulready; and siblings Betty Huffman and Ralph Smith.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Billy Meadows; daughters Kimberly Elmore Mulready, Christy Meadows Inclenrock, and Carrie Murphy (Michael); grandbabies Megan Hustead (Trevor), Madison Watkins (Dustin), Mackenzy Bochman (Steven), Tori Proctor, Catilyn Grose (Alex), Ethan Walker, and Leirebeth Mulready; great-grandbabies Blake Watkins, Taylynn Proctor, Parker Grose, Caroline Grose, and Remi Hustead; siblings Lonnie Smith and Jackie Smith. Special loved one, Michael Smith.
The family would like to thank the staff at Roane General Hospital and Kanawha Hospice for taking such good care of Virgie. Special thanks to her nurse Shelly with RGH and her Hospice nurse, Gina.
A funeral service will be held at Stump-Matics Funeral Home, 8539 Elk River Road North, Clendenin, WV, on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 3 p.m., with Pastor Tobby Mitchell officiating.
