Perry Patrick Dotson
Perry Patrick Dotson, 80, of Elkview, WV, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, October 15, 2026, in the loving arms of his son, Patrick.
He was born on November 4, 1945, at his family home in Summersville, WV, the son of the late Louis Michael Dotson and Margaret Curry Dotson.
Perry was a graduate of Nicholas County High School and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from West Virginia Institute of Technology in 1967. He went on to serve 33 years with the West Virginia State Personnel Department, retiring as Assistant Director.
Perry loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and gardening. An avid fisherman, he knew all the best fishing holes along Williams River and many other favorite spots throughout West Virginia. In recent years, when he wasn’t fishing or gardening, Perry could usually be found, leaf blower in hand, caring for his yard and often the entire road.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lynn Dotson of Elkview; his son, Patrick Dotson and wife Debbie; and four grandchildren, Will, Emma, Ella, and James, of Charleston, WV.
He is also survived by his brother, Michael of Franklin, IN; sisters, Rosemary of Middle River, MD, Betsy of The Villages, FL, Janet of Allentown, PA, and Cindy of Summersville, WV; brother-in-law, Stephen of Parkersburg, WV; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and more cousins than one could count.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his younger brother, Chris Dotson of Summersville, WV.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral services. Perry’s family will honor his memory by continuing to care for those he loved and carrying forward the things that mattered most to him.
He will be lovingly remembered by all those whose lives were touched by his presence.
