Mary Lou Turley-Hughes

Mary Lou Turley-Hughes passed away on May 3, 2026, at Charleston Hubbard Hospice House, with her family by her side.
She was born on October 10, 1938, to the late Andrew and Elva Turley, in Winfield, WV. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Willis Turley, Ray Turley, Vernon Turley, and her son, James A. Torman.
Mary was a proud graduate of Winfield High School, class of 1957, where she remained close to her classmates as a member of the alumni association. She worked at the Dunbar Ames Department Store and retired from Sams Club. Mary was a loving companion, mother, mother in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and dear friend to many.
Mary is survived by her loving and caring companion of 36 years, Larry J. Swiney; son: Derrick Torman (Milly) of St. Albans, WV, and step-daughter Heather Givens (Craig), Elkview, WV; grandchildren: Shaun Blake (Karen), Wilmington, NC, Nick Torman, Manning, SC, Brittany Curtin (Keith), Pittsboro, NC, Sarah Torman, St. Albans, WV, and Cody Torman (Sela), Huntington, WV; great grandchildren: Jacob Torman, St. Albans, WV, Emma Torman, Manning, SC, Sadie Blake, Wilmington, NC, and Max Blake, Wilmington, NC. Mary also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins, and very dear friends, Betty Burns, Betty Kidd, Shirley Goodall, and Jackie and Mike Hunter, who all made her life special.
A special thank you to all of the nurses and staff at the Charleston Hubbard House Hospice for the wonderful care they gave during Mary’s time there.
A Memorial Service to Celebrate Mary’s Life will be at Cooke Funeral Home in Nitro, WV, Saturday, May 30 at 4 p.m. with Chaplain Ray Witmer officiating. The family welcomes all that were a part of Mary’s life (casual dress).
