Olin Todd Davis, lovingly known as Todd, passed away surrounded by family after a lifetime marked by extraordinary perseverance, courage, and joy. Born on May 31, 1971, Todd’s life changed forever at the age of eight when he was critically injured by a drunk driver while attending third grade at Elk Valley Christian School. The accident left Todd with a traumatic brain injury from which he never mentally recovered.
Though his injury profoundly altered the course of his life, it never diminished Todd’s spirit. He possessed a joyful heart, a love for music, and a remarkable ability to make others smile. As a young child, Todd sang a solo at church at just six years old, already displaying the love of music that would remain with him throughout his life. He loved basketball and enjoyed both playing as a young man and later watching games on television, proudly pointing out every basket that was made.
Todd especially loved listening to music through his headset and would often greet visitors with a song and a smile. He had a contagious laugh and a playful nature that brought happiness to those around him. While his quality of life was tragically stolen at a young age, his personality, charm, and love for others always remained.
In his later years, Todd faced many serious health challenges, yet time and again he defied expectations with his resilience and determination. His family often said you could never count Todd out. After years of battling illness, Todd peacefully passed away at CAMC with his brother Mike and sister-in-law Franscene by his side.
Todd was preceded in death by his father, Michael William Davis.
He is survived by his devoted mother, Lanora June Davis, who for 46 years faithfully served not only as Todd’s advocate and caregiver, but also as his fierce protector and constant source of love. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Franscene Davis; his nieces, Tiffany Velleca (Caleb), Taylor McEwan (Will), and Taryn Boose (Evan); as well as three great-nephews and two great-nieces. Also survived by Uncle Kelsey and Aunt Angela Harding and Aunt Joyce Nichols.
Todd’s life was not defined by tragedy, but by the enduring spirit he carried through every hardship. He will be remembered for his laughter, his songs, his love of music and basketball, and the joy he brought to those who knew and loved him.
