Suzanne Jeannette (Tanner) Poorker passed away on 05/22/2026 after a hard fought and courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Boston, MA but grew up in Saratoga Springs, NY, which sparked a life-long love of horses.
She was a dedicated public servant who served 46 years until her retirement. She held a BS degree in Management from University of Maryland and an MBA from Strayer University. She was an Army veteran with tours of duty included Ft McClellan, AL, Ft Benning, GA, Ft Lee, VA, Ft Campbell, KY and Frankfurt, West Germany.
Her positions in the federal government included logistics, physical security and program management positions in Watervliet Arsenal, NY, Frankfurt, West Germany, Alexandria, VA, the Pentagon, Arlington, VA and Crystal City, VA. She retired in 2025.
Her hobbies included skiing, swimming, kayaking, horseback riding and boating. She was also a member of Northern Virginia Sheltie Rescue.
Most of all, she was proud of her family; husband Roy, to whom she was married to for 46 years; sons Christopher, Roy II, Scott, and daughter-in-law Ami Johnson; and granddaughters Tanner and Kiki. Her 4-legged companions included Chyna, Snowball, Raven, Lexi and, grand dog, Buddy.
She was preceded in death by parents Ion & Eleanor Tanner and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to NVSR (Northern Virginia Sheltie Rescue).
A funeral service will be held at Stump Funeral Home & Cremation, Inc., 1440 Arnoldsburg Road, Arnoldsburg, WV, Friday, May 29, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with a blessing from Fr. Ram Dakkamadugula of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
