Emma Lou Stone Johnson, 88, of Campbells Creek passed away May 29, 2026 at home following a short illness surrounded by her loved ones.

She was a retired supervisor for Patton Services and attended Fair Haven Baptist Church. She was the founder of the West Virginia Gold Star Mothers/Charleston Chapter and was a coordinator of Wreaths Across America at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens. Emma was also responsible for having the Goldstar license plates and signs instituted in West Virginia and was honored with the first Goldstar license plate in the state.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Hubert Johnson; daughter, Dortha Johnson; grandsons, Lance Cpl. Adam J. Crumpler, Aaron Hopkins; great grandson, Brandon Kirk; great granddaughter, Kaylee Hopkins; brother, James Stone and parents, Robert and Dortha Stone.

Surviving are her son, William Brown of Tad; daughters, Joetta Kirk of Winter Haven, Florida, Janiffer Gillespie of St. Augustine, Florida, Schrea Davison of Sebring, Florida, Tonda Hopkins of Copperhill, Virginia, Jill Sutphin of Waynesville, Missouri, Stacey Pitts of Mount Pleasant, Michigan; brothers, Richard Stone of Poca, Steve Stone of Campbells Creek; sisters, Mary Miller of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Devonna Jarrett of Campbells Creek; 5 grandsons; 11 granddaughters; 8 great grandsons; 15 great granddaughters;1 great-great granddaughter and best friend, Richard Hutchinson of Belle.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at Fidler and Frame Funeral Home, Belle with Pastor Randy Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the funeral home on Wednesday.
