Dennis Ray McKinney, 79, of Charleston, WV., passed away Sunday, July 19, 2026 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.
He was born November 28, 1946 in Charleston, WV. A son of the late, James Houston McKinney and Ida Mae (Latlip) McKinney.
Dennis was a Vietnam Veteran and although he was severely injured he would say no regrets, he would do it all over again. He was awarded two Purple Hearts plus many other medals for his service. He attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School and was a 1966 graduate of Charleston Catholic High School. He then joined the Army and he was mostly self employed having owned several restaurants and bars in Charleston for years. He loved to sing karaoke and people would ask to hear him sing. He was also an avid Mountaineer fan.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 44 years, Elizabeth (McGinnis) McKinney; sons, Denney McKinney (Stephanie) of Amma and John McKinney of Charleston; step daughters, Angela Williams of Charleston and Lisa McComas (Shane) of Nitro; grandson and part-time caretaker, Nathan Williams; six grandchildren and several great grandchildren; brother, Ronnie McKinney (Vicky) of Cross Lanes as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM., Thursday, July 23, 2026 at Bollinger Funeral Home, Charleston with Father Thomas Dharelli officiating. Dennis will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park with military rites by the WV Honor Guard and Daniel Boone VFW Post 5578.
Family and friends will gather for a time of visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
