Richard “Rick” Edward Munroe Jr., 60, of Hernshaw gained eternal peace in the fields of Heaven on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
Rick, son of the late Richard Edward Munroe Sr. and Majorie Sue (Adkins) Munroe, was born February 12, 1966 in Brooklyn, NY. He spent many days of his childhood playing baseball, disappearing into the woods, or shadowing his grandfather, Ernest “Forky” Clendenin, on an always grand adventure.
He graduated from East Bank High School in May 1984, and joined the United States Army on June 1st of the same year. While stationed in Germany in 1985, he met the love of his life, Petra (Kuhnlein) Munroe, who now keeps his memory alive and continues his stories. They married March 20th, 1987 and together they shared 40 years of love and adventures, including hunting, building a home, motorcycle rides, and raising their two children.
During his time in Service, Rick earned numerous Awards, including 5 Army Achievement Medals and 2 Bronze Stars. He was a Combat Veteran who had served in Southwest Asia during Operation Desert Storm.
He received an Honorable Discharge in November of 1991 at the rank of Sergeant, and returned home where he lived a fulfilling life of love and happiness with his family. He was employed with American Office Systems/Lanier/Ricoh for 25 years, then completed another 7 years of work-life at WilliamsScotsman until he was forced to retire for health reasons in 2024.
Together with his beloved wife, those left behind to carry on his legacy include his son, Kyle Munroe with partner Rachel Cummings, daughter Kayla (Munroe) Dills, grandchildren Brianna Munroe, Aiden Dills and Laveya Cummings, as well as many other family members and friends. His memories and spirit live on in those he held most dear to him.
Cremation has been observed and no services will be held at this time per Rick’s wishes.
