Ruth Ann “Spunky” Harper, 78 of Elkview, WV passed away at Thomas Memorial Hospital on August 12, 2026.
Ruth Ann was the heart of her family. She was married to the love of her life Elwood Harper. They had known each other since childhood and embraced their marriage that produced four beloved children. Even after Elwood’s early passing, Spunky remained eternally devoted.
She was also the grandmother every child hoped for to her 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. To her friends she was known for her loyalty, if you were a friend of Spunky’s, you were her friend for life. She was known for her zest for life, her bright smile and bubbly and outgoing personality. She never met a stranger. Ruth Ann loved spending time in Greenbrier County at camp it brought her such peace and rejuvenation, her second love was the beach.
Ruth Ann also loved the Lord and we are at peace knowing that she ran into the arms of her Savior, her husband Elwood and dear daughter, Julie.
Ruth Ann is preceded in death by her parents Minter J. and Devona Starcher, her beloved husband Elwood Harper and their precious daughter, Julie Harper.
Ruth Ann is survived by her children; Timothy Harper (Meghan) of Charleston, Kim Linhart (Bruce) of Elkview and Melissa Murray (Jason) of Cross Lanes. Sister, Melissa Carol Canada (Tex) of Charleston. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Hafer’s Funeral Home in Elkview, WV, at 1:00 on August 17th, 2026, with Pastor Sammy Bounds, officiating.
Visitation will be 12:00pm to 1:00pm on August 17, 2026.
Burial will immediately follow service at Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney, WV.
