Kathie Massey Bowling of South Charleston, and formerly of Whitesville, passed away on April 17th, 2026, after a short illness. Born December 14, 1956, in Dry Creek, WV, Kathie was a devout Christian and a respected and loved member of her communities.

She is preceded in death by her father, John E. Massey, Sr. and her nephew John E. Massey, III.

Kathie graduated from Sherman High School in 1974 where she has remained close with many friends and classmates.  After high school, Kathie worked at Hygeia Facilities, Dr’s. Pearcy, Bush, and Hill, and finally for Dr. Hatem Hossino where she retired in 2013.

She also attended Sylvester Baptist Church for many years before her move to South Charleston. Pastor David and Sande Minturn are still near and dear to heart as she loved her years at this church.

Her love of music and fellowship was clear as she was a member of the hospital ministry group Dr. J and the Ultrasounds from 2001 – 2017.

Kathie’s non-church activities included a 40 plus year stint with the Order of the Eastern Star in Whitesville, Chelyan, and Charleston before retiring in 2019. She is also an active member of the Kanawha Valley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution where she has held several offices for her chapter.

Kathie is survived by her mother Carol Massey; her only child Lee (Jenny) Bowling; brothers John E. (Karen) Massey, Jr., and Mark (Stephanie) Massey; grandchildren Dakota Williams, Hunter (Maddy) Bowling, and Nehlyn (Ryan) Bowling. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and her extended Bowling/Cantrell family.

As per her wishes, there will be a Celebration of Life at her home church, South Charleston First Church of the Nazarene, and will be held at a later date.
