Okey Simmons, 84, passed away on July 25, 2026. He was born on February 18, 1942, to Elton W. Simmons and Ruby B. (Wright) Simmons.

Okey lived a full and interesting life. He worked for many years as an electrical contractor with Village Electric before retiring. He was also a former pilot and a professional musician, two passions that reflected both his skill and his adventurous spirit.

More than anything, Okey was a family man. He and his wife, Sandra L. (Poland) Simmons, shared 67 years of marriage. Sandra passed away only a short time before him, making this an especially difficult season for their family. Together, they built a life, raised their children and created memories that will continue through the generations they leave behind.

Okey was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra; his parents, Elton and Ruby Simmons; his brother, David E. Simmons; his sister, Lulabell Simmons; and his daughter, Cathy L. Simmons Penny.

He is survived by his sons, Jeffrey Simmons and David Simmons and his wife, Kimberly; his grandson, Jonathan Simmons and his wife, Lauren; his granddaughters, Sabrina Walker and her husband, Joseph, and Tamera Simmons; and his great-granddaughter, Rylen A. Walker.

A joint Celebration of Life for Okey and Sandra will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Cooke Funeral Home in Nitro. Randy Witt will officiate.

After 67 years together, it is fitting that Okey and Sandra will be remembered together. Their family will carry forward the love they shared, the life they built and the many memories they left behind.
